The two parcels, which were sold by Flatley Co., could yield up to 1.6 million sf in space, which the company will develop as office and research and development space. " EMC is growing rapidly and planning for future development is necessary," Lieske tells GlobeSt.com.
The property was attractive to EMC because it is adjacent to Data General, the high-tech company recently acquired by EMC. "EMC owns a number of buildings along the Route 495 corridor," notes Lieske. "This makes it easy for employees to go between buildings, which is important to us." The new property is about a ten minute drive from the company's headquarters.
Recently, EMC leased 250,000 sf in Westborough, secured a 103,000-sf block at 450 Fortune Blvd. in Milford, and is also reportedly taking more than 100,000 sf of industrial space at Lincoln Property's speculative industrial project in Franklin.
