After a series of meetings over the last year and a half, the Downtown Advisory Committee in Fremont, Calif., has finished its draft for a 20-year downtown plan. This week, it presented that plan to the City Council, which will in turn hold hearings for public input.

In the works are a traditional Main Street design for downtown’s Capitol Avenue; a new City Hall at Capitol and State Street; and a cultural arts center in the core area bordered by Mowry Avenue, Paseo Padre Parkway, Walnut Avenue and Fremont Boulevard. The overall outlook for the revamped downtown will combine retail and office space with housing. The area will also be divided into seven subdistricts.
