FREMONT, CA-More than just business parks are being planed in northern Silicon Valley. City officials here are considering two separate sites for a proposed city recreational facility that would house a cricket field. Officials say they’ll need $15 million to buy and develop an appropriate space. Typical cricket fields measure 450 feet long and 400 feet wide.

The two sites under consideration are: one at Palm Avenue and Interstate 680, and one at the Pacific Commons site in south Fremont near Interstate 880 and Auto Mall Parkway. The city’s recreation commission last month voted to approve the field. One park-and-recreation official last week called cricket a “land-intensive request.” Officials are also considering a dirt-bike area and bocce courts in addition to the cricket field.
