Wielansky co-founded St. Louis-based Midland Development Group. That firm became one of the largest developers of Kroger supermarket-anchored shopping centers in the nation while he was CEO. In 1998, Regency Realty Corp. purchased the Midland Group and 35 of its shopping centers. Wielanksy served on Regency's board of directors and was managing director for investments for the company.

JDN Development lost its senior management team when it was discovered they were possibly overcharging two of their biggest clients, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Lowe's Inc., in various transactions.
