The park was built on Alexander Railroad Co. land just east of Taylorsville and developed as a joint venture between G.L. Wilson Building Co. and Statesville-based EnergyUnited. Since natural gas is now available in many part of the county, local officials are looking to attract more companies to the base of furniture manufacturers that dominate the local economy.

Local government officials are also considering an incentive package that could be offered to companies contemplating a move to Alexander County. But the county's remote location and the fragile infrastructure of its existing industrial property in many ways hinder its economic progress, some industry observers note.

However, Alexander Business Park is in a prime location, with access to Alexander Railroad's short-line service from Taylorsville to Statesville. The developers are hoping to attract a light industrial operation to the new spec building, ideally a rail-using technology firm.
