Greenspace Plan is Under Way

ATLANTA-Fulton County, one of the largest counties in metro Atlanta, is targeting 68,000 acres to preserve under the state's Greenspace Initiative.

ATLANTA-Fulton County is targeting 68,000 acres under the state’s Greenspace Initiative to preserve and protect from future development. Unincorporated Fulton County will receive about $1.5 million in spring 2001. Civic leaders plan to make an effort to get Fulton County to provide matching grants and to lobby Congress for matching funds as well.

Atlanta, most of which is in Fulton County, received a separate grant under the Greenspace Initiative for $2.6 million. The county is already heavily developed and, like much of metro Atlanta, sadly lacking in parks and greenspace.
