Two existing stations currently serve Dublin, a western one on Donahue Drive and a temporary eastern facility housed at the Santa Rita County Jail. The proposed fees would help fund construction of two new permanent fire stations in eastern Dublin. Assuming the new fee structure, fire officials said this week they expect the new stations to be up and running by 2004.

The temporary Santa Rita facility would be the first replaced; Alameda County and Dublin city officials are discussing the sale of 46,300 sf of surplus county property near Broder Boulevard and Madigan Road for the new station. It is uncertain where the second fire station would be located.

With an influx of high-tech companies seeking cheaper rent and more space, Dublin has become a boomtown. Its non-resident worker population is expected to more than double by 2025, jumping from a current 28,700 to 58,400. Most of those workers are in the eastern region.
