Proposed Fee Increase Would Fund Fire Stations

DUBLIN, CA-This week the City Council is deliberating a new fee levy on developers, the proceeds from which would fund a pair of new fire stations on the eastern edge of town.

DUBLIN, CA-As rampant development on the eastern side of this city continues, so does the need for and cost of public services. With that in mind, the Dublin City Council this week is deliberating increased fees for developers that would fund new fire stations. According to the city’s proposal, commercial-property developers would pay 9.5 cents per sf, with a levy of 18.5 cents per sf for office sites. Multifamily developers would pay a one-time fee of $404, and residential developers would pay $646. Those figures represent a 26% increase from fees set three years ago.

Two existing stations currently serve Dublin, a western one on Donahue Drive and a temporary eastern facility housed at the Santa Rita County Jail. The proposed fees would help fund construction of two new permanent fire stations in eastern Dublin. Assuming the new fee structure, fire officials said this week they expect the new stations to be up and running by 2004.
