HICKORY, NC-Almost 100% leased, the 35,000-sf Catawba Furniture Mall is getting some growing room. Ikerd Enterprises, the mall’s owner, plans a $7 million, 200,000-sf expansion when nearby road work is completed in a year. The changes being made to NC 127 will provide another mall entrance from a four-lane highway.

The 200,000-sf expansion will be the first of several planned additions that will add about 500,000 sf to the facility. Ikerd bought the 26-acre former Catawba Mall site in 1997 and reopened it as Catawba Furniture Mall the following spring. Ikerd also owns Atrium Furniture Mall in High Point, NC and Hickory’s Gateway Conference Center.
