According to the report, "Cybercities: A City-by-City Overview of the High-technology Industry," Phoenix technology-related firms employed 82,600 workers in 1998, making it the 12th largest cybercity in the nation. The city now has 2,400 high-tech companies, which employ 64 out of every 1,000 private-sector workers.
According to published reports, venture capital investments last year in Phoenix high-tech establishments totalled $287 million.
