SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO-Boston Properties will add two new office towers to its mixed-use business park here. Boston Properties purchased the so-called Gateway Center development last year. It is part of a master-planned, mixed-use community offering 900,000-sf of office buildings as well as hotels and retail space. The 22-acre property currently has two office towers totaling 506,000-sf. The new buildings, referred to as Gateway Commons, will be completed during the fourth quarter of 2001 and the first quarter of 2002, adding some 375,000-sf to the development.

The Gateway Center business park, located off Highway 101 just eight miles south of downtown San Francisco, is considered the closest Class-A office park near the San Francisco International Airport. The first new building, to be located at 611 Gateway Blvd., will be 11-stories and 250,000-sf. The second building, at 681 Gateway Blvd., will total four floors and 125,000-sf. Each building, designed by architect firm HOK, will feature seamless, glass facades that will fold back at acute angles to create a dramatic, multi-faceted profile. Both also will have cantilevered glass and steel canopies, as well as lobby areas adorned with polished stone floors and wood paneling.
