Local Mixed-Use Development Up for More National Praise

FAIRVIEW, OR-A 95-acre mixed-use development here called Fairview Village has been named one of the best “smart-growth” communities in the nation, and is a finalist for the 2000 Best in American Living Award, which recognizes design quality that is combined with marketplace success. Professional Builders Magazine and the National Association of Home Builders will announce the winner in February. In nominating the project, Judges looked at the range of housing choices, the design, the mix of land uses and alternative transportation systems.

Fairview Village is a mix of houses, rowhouses, and apartments built among green space, retail space and office space. Already built or under construction are Bally’s Total Fitness, La Petite Academy Preschool, the new public Woodland Elementary School, the new Fairview Columbia Library, numerous public parks, a new Fairview Post Office, a community church, a variety of retail and 100,000 sf of class A office space.
