REDMOND, WA-After more than 15 years of planning, hearings, lawsuits and revisions, the Seattle-based developer Quadrant Homes has finally been able move into the construction phase of Redmond Ridge. The 1,000-acre planned community east of Redmond is now well under way, with Quadrant and five other builders anticipating the completion of 500 residential units by the end of this year.

The saga began in 1984 when Quadrant Homes, the residential subsidiary of Quadrant Corp., first submitted its plans. Over the past 17 years, more than 30 public hearings have taken place, where activist groups made objections to the development and local residents’ concerns were voiced by state and county agencies. Some had argued for a rezoning of the project as rural. But, this past June, the Central Sound Growth Management Hearings Board upheld Redmond Ridge’s status as a fully contained urban community.
