Mann Contractors, the general contractor, is dividing the building's former atrium to create a second-floor conference room with a vaulted ceiling. The firm had made several previous unsuccessful attempts at acquiring Uptown property.

According to Southern executive vice president David Goode, the new space will be convenient to Downtown and give the firm increased market presence. Southern will share the space with a sister company, Development Management Inc., which leases and manages shopping centers in the Carolinas and three other Southeastern states.
