Stop & Shop Signs Regional HQ Lease

EDISON, NJ-When Royal Ahold of the Netherlands, owner of Stop & Shop, acquired the Edwards’ supermarket chain a few years ago, it was considered to be just a matter of time before the Edwards name would disappear. That officially happened in early fall when all of the signage came down on the Edwards’ stores and was replaced by the Stop & Shop moniker. The event also marked the official return of Stop & Shop name to the New Jersey marketplace–the grocery chain had exited this market back in the mid-’80s.

Now, the combined chains, operating under the Stop & Shop brand, have signed a lease for 32,408 sf of class A space for its new regional headquarters. The site is Summit Associates’ Raritan Plaza I at Raritan Center here. R.J. Brunelli & Co., the Old Bridge, NJ-based brokerage firm, arranged the 10-year lease for the building’s entire 6th floor. Occupancy is expected to occur next March.
