EUGENE, OR-An undeveloped parcel here within the University of Oregon’s Riverfront Research Park is causing quite a hubbub. The property is slated for a new business bringing new jobs into the community, but a team of University staff and students are fighting to preserve the land, which now is being used in part as sports fields. It is considered one of the last undeveloped parcels in the area.

The UO’s research park master plan calls for a total of 21 buildings on the site. Opponents of its development are preparing to introduce a resolution next month in the University of Oregon Senate to try and head off development. Some people believe Symantec Corp. is interested in the property. The company currently operates out of downtown Eugene and is looking for expansion space.
