Voters Will Have Final Say On Mixed-Use Project Exceeding City's Height Limit

SAN BRUNO, CA-Planning commissioners this week gave unanimous approval to plans for the transformation of a 20-acre former naval base into a mix of office, retail and hospitality. The project is now headed to the City Council. If approved – due to a city ordinance restricting structures within city limits to 50 feet tall – the project will need to be overridden by voters before any construction begins, says George Foscardo, Community Development Director for the city.

Just off Highway 101 and Interstate 280, San Bruno is located 12 miles south of San Francisco and immediately adjacent to the San Francisco International Airport. The developers, Foster City-based Regis Homes and San Francisco-based Martin Group, hope to develop 285,000-sf of office space in five stories, a six-story hotel with 500 rooms and 15,000-sf of meeting space, a six-story senior housing facility and a four-story apartment building.
