Downtown Association Hands Out Annual Renovation Awards

SAN JOSE-Jim Salata and Barry Swenson are this year's recipients of the Golden Nail Award, which honors business and property owners making significant improvements to their buildings.

SAN JOSE-The San Jose Downtown Association is distributing its annual Golden Nail Awards again, honoring business and property owners making significant improvements to their buildings and thereby enhancing downtown’s architectural landscape.

This year, the association honored Jim Salata for the Garden City Construction building and Barry Swenson for the Letitia and Security buildings. Salata was honored for the authentic restoration of the Garden City headquarters at 618 South First St. The one-story depression-era building was gutted and restored using many of the original materials. The external façade also was restored to its original configuration.
