Residents and School District Getting Voice on Rezoning/Annexation Issues

ATLANTA-Canton, GA, 35 miles northwest of Downtown in one of metro Atlanta's fast-growing northern counties, is telling developers to discuss their projects with civic and homeowner groups first before applying for development permits.

ATLANTA-Developers in Canton, 35 miles northwest of Downtown in one of metro Atlanta’s fast-growing northern counties, has approved a citizens participation policy for the first time. It’s a two-part package that gives residents and the school district a say in rezoning and annexation requests.

Developers have to discuss their planned projects first with civic and homeowner groups before applying for city development permits. The Cherokee County school board must also be notified of all residential developments with more than 25 units.
