VANCOUVER, WA-Wal-Mart is laying the groundwork for a 75,000-sf expansion of its 155,560-sf store here at the intersection of Mill Plain Boulevard and Interstate 205. The expansion was approved as part of the original development permit for the two-year-old location. Vancouver associate planner Bruan Monroe tells GlobeSt that Wal-Mart officials will meet with him Jan. 11 to discuss eventualities in advance of a formal application.

If built, the 209,560-sf SuperCenter would easily be the largest retail store in Clark County. The letter requesting the pre-application meeting also suggests the expanded store might be open 24 hours a day. The existing store is open 16 hours a day, and sits across I-205 from a Fred Meyer store that sells groceries. The expanded Wal-Mart would be 25% larger than Fred Meyer.
