Also this week, the commission voted to reduce or eliminate some fees that community development staff considers excessive. The moves are the result of an outside audit of the department that was released last month. Citygate Associates of Folsom, CA was the auditor. Citygate is recommending that the county review and adjust its fee structure annually.

The one-year extension of the surcharge should allow the county to implement several audit recommendations, including a project-by-project cost-accounting system that should help determine why costs are rising.
