The Landing at Jack London Square consists of studios, one- and two-bedroom apartment with nine-foot ceilings, wood-burning fireplaces, walk-in closets, full-size washers and dryers and custom kitchens equipped with dishwashers and microwaves. Shared amenities include a full-length heated swimming pool, spa, fitness center, garage parking, a fully equipped business center with conference facilities and high-speed Internet connections and a clubroom featuring a kitchen and large screen television. Prices on the studios range from $1,440 to $1,690 a month, one bedroom units range from $1,800 to $2,400 and two bedroom units range from $2,300 to $3,000.
During his January 1999 inauguration, Mayor Jerry Brown established Oakland's 10K Initiative to attract 10,000 new residents in four years to the Downtown area as a way to revitalize the physical, economic and cultural environment of the area. According to city estimates, accommodating 10,000 new residents will require the construction of approximately 6,000 new units on as many as 30 to 40 city blocks.
