Sources in the industry tell GlobeSt.com that Stop & Shop, the Quincy-based supermarket chain, and Eastern Development are considering locking up all the Bradlees leases along the Eastern seaboard. The two companies have had a close relationship for many years. Calls to Stop & Shop and Eastern Development were not returned by presstime.

Bradlees spun off from Stop & Shop nearly eight years ago but the Stop & Shop's signature remains on a number of the Bradlee store leases. Liability issues might be the driving force behind the supermarket chain's interest in these leases. Industry sources do not believe that Stop & Shop intends to open stores in all the buildings.
