Lead brokers C. Whitney Knoll and Eric Zimmermann, with junior partner Jamie Hiatt and assistant Samantha Sparks are unpacking at TCC's digs in Atlanta. Along with Philip Hager, the retail investment team now numbers five. They will cover the Southeast in coordination with other Trammell Crow offices, says Knoll.
Although its purchase of Faison in 1999 gave TCC a substantial retail leasing/management presence, the company wanted to add more senior people on the investment side. Knoll and Zimmermann, who worked together at Ben Carter for seven years, first teamed up in 1991 and since then have sold some 80 retail centers valued at $750 million in the Southeast, Knoll tells GlobeSt.com.
Their most recent large sales in 2000 were Merchants Walk in Cobb County, about 20 miles northwest of Downtown. The center went for $27 million. In July, the duo sold Buckhead Crossing in the hot Buckhead market for $29 million. Hiatt joined the pair about six years ago, and Sparks came on board in mid-1999.
Knoll says the parting from Ben Carter was friendly. "Ben Carter is focused on development and management and is more of a regional boutique company," he tells GlobeSt.com. One of the main attractions that lured the team to Trammell Crow is its national and regional platform. "We are seeing that a national presence and national relationships are beneficial in the market today," Knoll says.
