Belk Consolidating Six Distribution Centers in Carolinas

CHARLOTTE-The locally-based retailer will be relocating an undetermined number of the 300 workers to its new $9.2-million, 367,000-sf automated center in Blythewood, SC, near Columbia, SC, 200 miles south of Downtown Charlotte.

The Woodpark Boulevard center in Charlotte will close March 5, affecting more than 100 workers. This 20-year-old facility has been servicing the greater Charlotte market from Statesville, NC, to Rock Hill, SC. Belk said it would also close North Carolina distribution centers in Greenville, Morrisville and Fayetville. Later in the year, Belk will shut down South Carolina distribution centers in Mauldin and Summerville. These closings will affect 200 workers.
