Amtech, a 23-year provider for the complex, has picked up an extra 500,000 sf and will be servicing 79 elevators, Bob Carlen, Greenway general manager, told GlobeSt.com. Equipment in two locations had been specialized and serviced by another company, but Amtech had found a way to deal with the mechanisms in its bid to take over the entire service pact, Carlen explains. Amtech also will service the plaza's escalator system.

Carlen says the company's long-term knowledge of the system will be particularly valuable during an upcoming elevator modernization program, which includes new microprocessor controls and Internet access screens in the elevator cabs.

Greenway Plaza is located in a 65-acre, master-planned development, which includes Compaq Center, where the NBA's Houston Rockets play home games as well as Landmark Theaters, Houston City Club, Maxim's Restaurant, Renaissance Houston Hotel and The Shops at Greenway, a retail mall and food court. Amtech is a wholly owned subsidiary of ABM Industries Inc.
