Florida's Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development is using a total $22 million of sales tax funds from spring-training income to help finance the stadium renovation.

Lakeland, FL, 60 miles from Downtown Miami, is receiving $7 million to refurbish its Marchant Stadiyum for the Detroit Tigers' spring training period. Clearwater, FL, Dunedan, FL and Indian River County are also getting smaller shares of the $22 million pool to fix up sports facilities.

Besides signing the Astros to a new lease, Osceola County will also be pocketing an estimated $4 million over the 15-year lease period from a larger share of concession sales. The renovations call for an expanded clubhouse area, a new weight-training room and more modern lockers. The Astros' 12-game spring training schedule starts March 3 against the Florida Marlins.
