Goulet estimated the township has seen more than 2,000 new apartment units go up in the last few years. He credits the upswing for an increase in commercial development, particularly office and ndustrial, nearby; and also for the township's location midway between Detroit and Ann Arbor.
"I think we have a lot of empty nesters moving into apartments from larger housing, and a high percentage of residents who work for the Big Three," he said. Examples of new development include Windchase II off of Haggerty Road near Cherry Hill Road and Victorian Village on Beck Road near Cherry Hill by Singh Development of West Bloomfield Township. Selective Development is building a project with 420 apartment/condominium units, and Lewiston-Smith is building Cambridge Apartments with 599 traditional townhomes, Goulet said.
