The company, a strategic business unit of PerkinElmer Inc. of Wellesley, MA, signed a sublease with Philips Medical Systems for 245,000 sf of space here for an unspecified term. In addition, the company signed a direct lease for that space with building owner Reckson Associates Realty Corp., according to Paul Jacobs, senior managing director of Insignia/ESG, who represented Philips Medical Systems in the sublease transaction. Spaulding & Slye represented PerkinElmer Instruments.

Stephanie Wasco, community relations manager for PerkinElmer Instruments, says the company will relocate from leased space at 50 Danbury Rd. in Wilton and 761 Main Ave. in Norwalk to the 450,000-sf building. She notes that the company decided to relocate in order to consolidate its manufacturing operations in Norwalk and its administrative functions in Wilton under one roof.

The property is situated on 29 acres. The company's space will be undergoing extensive renovations, according to Stephen P. DeFalco, president of PerkinElmer Instruments. "We will transform the existing site into a modern facility that is customized to support the instrument business," he says.

PerkinElmer Instruments was originally part of PE Corp. and was acquired in 1999 by EG&G, Inc., a global technology company based in Massachusetts. At the same time, EG&G acquired the PerkinElmer brand name and later changed its name to PerkinElmer, Inc.

Insignia's Jaocbs also revealed that Philips Medical Systems has signed a short-term lease for 75,000 sf of space at 472 and 478 Wheelers Farm Rd. (the Equitable campus) in Milford. The company is scheduled to relocate its corporate headquarters operations from Connecticut to Seattle by year's end.

"It was a good deal for Perkin-Elmer and a good opportunity for Philips Medical to assign their lease and remaining obligations to PerkinElmer," Jacobs says.
