As part of the plan, the council has already agreed to spend $55,000 on an economic development study. Hammer Siler George Associates of Silver Spring, MD, was chosen to do the review. ``There is new blood in the area and we are excited to get started,'' said Wes Schlobohm, an area developer and owner of Best Deal Auction Systems at 1100 E. Linwood. ``Troost has been studied and studied, now we are hoping to get to the implementation stage.''

The consultants, chosen from a list of a half dozen candidates, will study land and buildings along Troost Avenue from 22nd to 47th streets.

Among the properties currently being developed in the area is an old Firestone building and two others on the east side of Troost, at Linwood. Schlobohm along with partners Ben Herrron and Abe Addad are refurbishing the buildings with plans of creating loft apartments, storefronts and other business locales.

Schlobohm is the president of the Troost Midtown Association. Other projects underway or under study in the area are the revitalization of the original Walt Disney studio, the remake of the Old Torreon dance club and neighborhoods, including Longfellow and Beacon Hill. There is also been a proposal to renovate the St. Vincent's Day Care Center at 31st and Troost Avenue.
