Georgia Power Co. owns the four-story, 63,000-sf asset and has set an asking price of $2 million to $2.5 million. The city must match the DOT's funds with a minimum of $200,000. Macon is 85 miles southeast of Downtown Atlanta.

The DOT's grant is part of a $4.5 million sum being awarded to various cities throughout Central Georgia's 8th Congressional District for transportation enhancement programs. Macon's $1 million is the largest awarded. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and would become a major stop on a proposed rail line between Atlanta and Macon, expected to be active by the end of 2004.
