Four winning projects from Detroit were:· Orchestra Place by Rossetti Architects of Birmingham. The first phase of an $80-millionredevelopment complex is adjacent to Orchestra Hall on Woodward Avenue.· The Van Elsander Family Center for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The project is ajoint effort by the Detroit Collaborative Design Center and the SmithGroup.· Two contributions from the firm headed by William Kessler, KesslerAssociates. They were an addition to the Detroit Cornice and Slate Building on St.Antoine across the street from the Greektown Casino and the Center forCreative Studies/Ford-Kresge Building located on East Kirby in the CulturalCenter (which won the 25-Year Award).

Other Michigan firms won awards for designs in the suburbs and elsewhere.· St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Hazel Park earned praise for itsrenovation by Constantine George Pappas Architects Planners of Troy.· Royal Oak Alias/Wafefront was honored for the design by Van Tine/Guthrie Studio of Architecture of Northville and Biddison Architecture+Design of Farmington Hills.· Detroit-based Albert Kahn won a design award for the $1-billion, 2-million-sf BMW Manufacturing Corp. Plant in Spartanburg, S.C.· Neumann/Smith Associates of Southfield and associate architect Sims-Varnerof Detroit was recognized for the design of the General Motors Service PartsOperation World Headquarters on 82 acres in Grand Blanc.
