The deal has been rumored for months. The $20-million call center would be adjacent to the University of North Florida from where AOL hopes to draw future engineering talent and staffers. AOL officials wouldn't confirm the scheduled deal signing but Robert Fagin, executive director of the county agency, confirmed the event in a published report.

The land purchase equates to $138.89 per acre or $3.19 per sf. AOL currently leases 90,000 sf of office at Imeson International Industrial Park on the city's northside. The first phase of the call center is tentatively scheduled for completion in December with the final phase completion expected by March 2002, according to AOL's previously-announced plans.

The park has already closed a deal with another high-profile corporate tenant, ADT Security Services Inc., to build a call center for 450 employees.
