Large, Affluent K.C. Suburb Sees 51% Jump in Commercial Building Permits

OVERLAND PARK, KN-Although the number of permits issued in 2000 is up significantly from the previous year, most of them were for remodeling and miscellaneous permits. New permits were down by one, to 99.

OVERLAND PARK, KN-Commercial building permits were up significantly in 2000. This suburb of Kansas City issued 949 permits last year, up 51% from the 627 permits in 1999.

However, there were 99 new commercial permits issued, one fewer than in 1999. Included in that total were six permits issued for new hospitals, schools and churches, down from 13 in 1999. The biggest jump and largest volume was seen in remodeling and miscellaneous commercial building permits. Last year, 844 such permits were issued, compared to 514 in 1999.
