WorldCom Driving $900-Mil Initiative for 13-City Facilities Rollout

DALLAS-WorldCom is building technical facilities in 13 cities, where more than 1.3 million sf is under construction or being leased. Overseeing the closely guarded Project Lightspeed is Dallas-based WorkPlaceUSA.

DALLAS-WorldCom has launched an initiative, valued at $900 million, to roll out more than 1.3 million sf of new construction and leased space in 13 cities for technical facilities.

WorldCom’s Project Lightspeed has been a closely guarded secret that is drawing on the services of WorkPlaceUSA, headquartered in Dallas, and San Francisco-based Citadon. Company officials had not been available for comment yesterday to answer questions about the project.

Thirteen network information centers, all outfitted with state-of-the-art technology, are being built in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Jersey, St. Louis, San Jose, Seattle and northern Virginia. The new construction totals 1.3 million sf while 146,000 sf has been leased to support the undertaking.
