Troy Hopes to Build Hotel, Offices, Entertainment Around Civic Center

TROY, MI-The city north of Detroit is building public/private partnerships to create a conference center, hotel, office building, youth museum, IMAX theater and a performing arts center in the next five years.

TROY, MI-This city 20 miles north of Detroit is moving ahead on creating a strong bond between the public and commercial sectors in its 128-acre Civic Center area. The city is negotiating with developers to build a 5,000-seat performing arts center, a 450-room hotel, an office building, an IMAX theater and a 150,000-sf conference center on the property, next to city hall on Big Beaver and Livernois roads, in the next five years.

“These developments will assist the residents and the business community,” says City Manager John Szerlag.

The L-shaped property, about 128 acres, fronts on the north side of Big Beaver and Livernois roads, separated by the Troy Marriott and offices on the corner. Szerlag says the projects are in the planning stages. They are a mix of public and private developments, and details have to be worked out with interested developers and tenants before site plans can be approved. The City Council must then give its go-ahead.
