The $140 million project will include a 12,000 sf spa, a 36-hole golf course and 30,000 sf of meeting space. The resort will be located 25 miles from the city of San Juan and is Fairmont's third resort in the Caribbean. The hotel management company now has 37 properties in the US, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean.
Founded in 1991, Willowbend Development specializes in developing, operating and constructing golf and hospitality-related facilities. The company currently has majority interest in $500 million in developments. Betteroads, an asphalt producer and paving company, is part of Empress Diaz, a construction conglomerate.
