Well-known chef Richard Sandoval, whose Maya restaurants in New York City and San Francisco have been well received, heads Tamayo. The eatery will open in mid-April. Tamayo's is a bit more casual and the prices are less expensive than at the Maya restaurants. Tamayo's entrees will be in the $15 to $23 range.

The 200-seat Tamayo restaurant will replace the eight-year old Cadillac Ranch restaurant at 14th and Larimer streets in Larimer Square, a small, retail and restaurant area in Lower Downtown.

Larimer Square and Sandoval will share the cost of refurbishing the 5,400-sf space in the historic Hope Hotel building. Over the years, the building has housed a nightclub called Betty Rose and Lafitte's, a Cajun-French-style restaurant that was there for about two decades.
