Airport, Hotel Retailer Expands Facility to 35,500 SF

DES PLAINES, IL-The distribution arm of airport and hotel specialty store firm WH Smith Group is expanding its building in First Industrial Realty Trust’s development here at 2311 Mt. Prospect Rd. WH Smith moved from nearby Schiller Park to a 23,000-sf facility less than a year ago but hired Keeley Construction Inc. to build a 12,500 sf addition.

The company sells newspapers, magazines, books and souvenirs at more than 400 stores in the United States and 700 in the United Kingdom. When the addition is completed this month, it will use an extra 11,000 sf for distribution and the other 1,500 sf for office use. John Scoville of Keeley is the project manager and Dan Earles of Fitzgerald Earles Architects is providing architectural services.
