PLEASANTON, CA-The City Council here on Tuesday will revisit a sometimes-controversial issue: use of land on the city’s eastern edge. In particular, council members will examine potential uses for several parcels, including a 91-acre plot known as the Busch property. The property was slated for development by Ponderosa Homes in 1998, but that effort was defeated by a petition drive sparked by residents opposed to the potential loss of open space.

Due diligence on the property, located near the intersection of Stoneridge Drive and El Charro Road, was put on hold last year in favor of the 500-acre Bernal property near Interstate 680, as well as approval of an area sewage-pipeline project. But with that planning behind them, city leaders are now turning their attention back toward the yet-undeveloped eastern edge. On the table for Tuesday will be discussion of traffic and other environmental issues – both sore spots in Pleasanton, a city which has seen more than its share of commercial development in recent months.
