Clatsop Makes Play for Countywide Enterprise Zone to Attract New Business

ASTORIA, OR-A countywide enterprise zone is being pursued by Clatsop County commissioners as a way to increase the number of living-wage jobs. The designation would empower local governments to waive certain taxes for a time as an incentive to attract new businesses or entice existing businesses to expand.

The state Legislature must approve any tax relief, but State Sen. Joan Dukes, D-Svensen, has reportedly agreed to introduce legislation to create the district. Dukes could not immediately be reached by GlobeSt for comment, but a draft of the legislation is expected to be on commissioners’ desks later this month. Cities will have the option to not participate.
