SAN JOSE, CA-City planning officials are proposing changes to land-use designations in 14 key locations, advancing redevelopment officials’ goal of heightened mixed-use construction as part of the city’s long-term general plan. Monday was the last day public comments were to be accepted. The study is now headed to the San Jose City Council for review.

The city’s “Housing Opportunities Study” suggests that San Jose’s 2020 General Plan shift to “accommodate new development that meets the city’s housing and economic development goals.” Those aims, the report says, include permitting taller building in the Downtown area as well as in transit-oriented sections of the city. The promotion of “transit-oriented development” is also listed as a key goal.

The 14 locations are currently zoned as residential. The planning department study proposes those designations be tweaked in order to allow a greater range of uses. Here is a quick look at the recommendations:
