The Entergy site is two miles from a 367-acre site where Carolina Power & Light is building a $400-million power plant. CP&L had initially proposed a $200-million plant to meet demands during peak hours, but then asked North Carolina regulators to permit an addition representing another $200 million, according to a published report. CP&L has started construction on its plant.

The convergence of Duke Energy Corp. power transmission lines and natural gas from the nearby Williams/Transco Pipeline highlights that section of Rowan County as a prime location for power plants, local officials say in a published report.
