$300-Mil Power Plant Planned in Rowan County

SALISBURY, NC-Entergy Power Generating Corp. is scheduling a ground-breaking for first quarter 2002 on a 118-acre site just west of Salisbury, NC and 50 miles northeast of Charlotte.

SALISBURY, NC-Entergy Power Generating Corp. plans to break ground in first quarter 2002 on a $300 million, 118-acre natural gas plant just west of Salislbury, NC in Rowan County and 50 miles northeast of Downtown Charlotte. The project needs approvals from county, state and federal regulators, according to a published report.

The Entergy site is two miles from a 367-acre site where Carolina Power & Light is building a $400-million power plant. CP&L had initially proposed a $200-million plant to meet demands during peak hours, but then asked North Carolina regulators to permit an addition representing another $200 million, according to a published report. CP&L has started construction on its plant.
