Clark Halstead founded Halstead Property Co. in 1984 and will retain his title of chairman and founder. Spokespeople for BHS say the company will continue to "operate independently of other brokerage firms owned by the principals of Brown Harris Stevens." At the same time, they laud the addition to BHS' size. In a released statement, Arthur and William Lie Zeckendorf write, "New York real estate brokerage is a highly competitive field in which size matters."

Feathered Nest is the largest residential rental brokerage firm with 80 brokers in Manhattan and is also owned by the same owners of BHS and BHS Halstead. BHS was established in 1873 and is the only company of its kind that serves both commercial and residential real estate in any of the five boroughs. There are seven operating divisions, more than 400 employees, it owns Christie's Great Estate affiliate Brown Harris Stevens of Palm Beach and Brown Harris Stevens of Winter park, FL.

BHS headquarters are at 770 Lexington Ave. The residential sales office is located at 655 Madison Ave., at 2112 Broadway at 73rd Street and at 2 Fifth Ave. The commercial services offices are at 770 Lexington Ave., Garden City in Nassau County, Long Island and Hauppauge in Suffolk County, Long Island.

Halstead has four retail offices on the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, SoHo and Greenwich Village, but spokespeople did not have addresses handy by presstime. There are also Halstead office in the Hamptons on Long Island that operate under Dayton-Halstead and are not included in the acquisition.
