Last month, Atchison Casting announced that one of three steel foundries in the Pennsylvania Foundry Group and one of two iron foundries in the PrimeCast division would close, eliminating 220 jobs.
Atchison Casting makes iron and steel castings for a variety of customers. The company lost $2 million on sales of $24 million in the last fiscal year, ending June 30. Locally, Atchison Casting employs 540 persons at the main plant in Atchison and 120 in machine shops across the Missouri River in St. Joseph, MO.
