Real estate experts at recent forecast sessions and symposiums say that despite economic jitters that have resulted in layoffs locally, the market should fare well thanks to a diversified economy that does not rely on one company or a single industry. But the market's strength goes further than that. "What we are known for us our superior public transportation system," says Lori G. Brown, SIOR, manager of Binswanger Advisory Group's Midwest operations.

The federal government will pay $384 million towards the rebuilding of the Douglas branch of the Blue Line, one of six spokes out of the Loop serving city neighborhoods and some nearby suburbs. The Illinois FIRST program will provide $81 million toward the work.

"This will mean faster and more convenient public transit service for the communities along this branch and will result in a major reinvestment in these neighborhoods to improve their quality of life," said Mayor Richard M. Daley.
