The San Diego Unified Port Authority and the San Diego Association of Governments met to discuss the possibility of launching a new study, which could cost up to $1 million, to look at the growing need for a larger passenger terminal and more air cargo space.

Port and Sandag staff will work to determine the details for the study, which is will take about a year to complete.

Lindbergh Field is expected to reach full capacity by 2015, and the region's officials have launched numerous studies aimed at solving the politically prickly dilemma of how or where to replace or expand it.
