The 2,000-sf French jewelry store will be adjacent to Saks Fifth Avenue. Cartier had been founded in France more than 100 years ago and today has 27 nationwide and 200 worldwide.

Cartier will compete with the Hyde Park jeweler, Tiffany, also in the Taubman Co.-owned mall as well as nearly a dozen jewelers in the nearby Cherry Creek boutique shopping area. Jim Sullivan, chairman of SullivanHayes Cos., the largest retail broker and developer in Denver, says Hyde Park boasts the highest per sf sales of all major tenants in Cherry Creek.

Cherry Creek remains the metro area's top mall despite tough competition from newer suburban malls, specifically Park Meadows in Douglas County in the southeast corridor and FlatIron Crossing in Broomfield, Sullivan says. Cherry Creek sales typically have been ranked in the top 2% of all malls in the country.

Cartier will be joining tenants such as Bisou Bisou, Diesel, Lucky Brand, Talbot's Woman and Petites Sophisticate and L'Occitane, a body- and skin-care retailer. These stores will replace several that recently have vacated space. The recent closings include Gart Sports, Rainforest Café, Calendar Club, Hold Everything, Laura Ashley and Mary Engelbreit.
