"Rosewood and Maritz, Wolff & Co. have the deepest respect for the tradition of The Carlyle," said Philip Maritz, president of Maritz, Wolff & Co and chairman of Rosewood. "No major changes are planned for this landmark hotel and we will continue to enhance the hotel and the service as the current owner has done."
Terms of the sale were not released. The Carlyle was sold by a partnership comprised of Norman Peck, Peter J. Sharp and Jerome Greene. The sale was motivated by the deaths of Mr. Sharp in 1992 and Mr. Greene in 1999.
Maritz, Wolff & Co. is a private investment firm with more than $2 billion in property holdings around the world. Among its properties are The Four Seasons Nevis and The Four Seasons Toronto. Rosewood, based in Dallas, manages properties on five continents, among them Badrutt's Place in St. Moritz, Switzerland and Hotel Seiyo Ginza in Tokyo.
